Community Foundation for Southwest Washington to host ‘uniquely relevant’ author Eric Liu

The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington will host a virtual philanthropy celebration on June 1, featuring a talk from author and speaker Eric Liu.

The event, Together We Can, will begin at noon. Tickets are available at www.cfsww.org. The event also includes a post-event conversation with Liu.

Liu is the son of Chinese immigrants, a former White House speechwriter for Bill Clinton and the CEO of a nonprofit called Citizen University. He is also executive director of the Aspen Institute Program on Citizenship and American Identity.

His most recent book, “Become America: Civic Sermons on Love, Responsibility, and Democracy,” was inspired by Citizen University’s program, according to a news release from the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington, or CFSWW.

“We think his message is uniquely relevant in this moment,” CFSWW spokesman Maury Harris wrote in an email. “Judging by his recent appearance on NPR and other major outlets, I think others agree.”

Liu also publishes his work about democracy and politics in The Atlantic.
